Who Am I?
My name is Nikea Cook. I am a 30 year old mother. I have one child, a 2 year old named Harper Elise.
I grew up in the 90s and 2000s. I am the oldest of twos chilren. My brother and I are a year and six weeks apart. I was raised with both parents in the household. Both whom were very present and active in my life. My mother was the caretaker. She showed her love with physical touch, hugs, kisses and lots of affection. My father was affection, but in a different way. He showed his love by being a provider and with quality time.
I grew up in a tradition black family household. The way my parents discipline was "Old school" (time outs, spankings, grounding, taking away privelages etc.) I very musch respected my parents, I did not grow up in fear of them, nor did I feel abused.
Why I started the podcast?
I felt there was a lack of representation for my demographic on this platform. Alot of the motherhood podcast represent white women or middle aged mothers or mothers with blended families. Or the podcasts that I found with black mothers did not discuss issues that I wanted to discuss in relation to motherhood.
I want to use and share the knowledge I am gaining as a mother in order to creat a community around black motherhood because the experience as a black mother is different from any other.
What to Expect
Segments:
Mom Crush: I will begin each episode with a black mother that I admire and shout her out for whatever she is doing to be an awesome mother.
Momswers: Q+A segment where viewers can submit questions and receive advice from myself from a mother's point of view.
#MOMLIFE: This is the main segment which will contain the topic of the day.
Parenting Fails & Toddler Tales: I will be sharing funny parenting and toddler stories that I see on social media.
